The Foster & Kinship Care Preparation program is a series of courses required for Sonoma County residents interested in becoming foster, adoptive, kinship, or non-relative families who are providing homes for foster children.

Foster Parent Preparation: Part I

This course is required for Sonoma County residents interested in becoming foster, adoptive, kinship, or non-relative families who are providing homes for foster children. Topics include: an overview of the child protective services and the court system; working with children who have been traumatized; building positive interactions with birth parents; sharing information with social workers and parents; and helping children return home or move to another placement. This course is a requirement of the Foster Parent Preparation Certificate.

Part II focuses on longer-term issues of raising children with trauma, attachment disorders, fetal alcohol syndrome disorder, and other substance exposed disorders. This course is a requirement of the Foster Parent Preparation Certificate.

ADLTED 730

First Aid, CPR, AED and Bloodborne Pathogens

This course teaches basics of CPR, AED and First Aid emergency response skills which enable participants to give immediate care to a person who has been injured or is experiencing a sudden illness. Satisfies first-time and renewal certifications. This course does not satisfy the requirement for health care providers.
