Are you an SRJC counselor helping an Adult Dual Enrollment (ADE) student complete their educational plan or wanting to learn more about the ADE program in general?
The SRJC Adult Education Program is honored to offer the Adult Dual Enrollment Program (ADE), which allows adult students pursuing a high school equivalency (HSE) certificate or high school diploma (HSD) in California to take credit courses at a Community College without paying tuition. However, students must pay other fees, including Health Service ($27.00), Transportation ($3.00), and Student Representation ($2.00). Below are some helpful pointers that can help us all be successful.
Questions or concerns?
If you have any questions or concerns during a counseling appointment or in general, please feel free to contact Wendy Garcia-Vega directly by email at [email protected] or by phone at 707-527-4253.
SRJC Credit Application
All ADE students MUST submit a credit application for each semester they would like to participate in. The ADE coordinator will let them know if they need to submit a credit application, but if they come to you for help with the application, please help them fill out the credit application.
Ed Plan Requirements
- Is there at least one CSKL and one credit class listed in the ed plan? Please make sure there is at least one CSKL class and at least one credit class (maximum of 11 units) in the ed plan. If this is the student's first time participating in ADE, we would strongly suggest they start with one credit class at a time to ensure they will be successful in their classes. If the ed plan exceeds the 11 units per semester, it will not be accepted.
- Students MUST sign up for all of the classes listed in the ed plan. Please only include the classes students are going to take in the ed plan. Try to avoid including classes they may take because if they end up not taking the class, it will affect their program eligibility.
Class Availability
One important thing to note is that the program cannot guarantee spaces in the classes students wish to take. As a counselor, you can help us by verifying there is still space in the class(es) the ADE participant wishes to take before adding the class to their ed plan. If a class is full, please instruct the student to request an add code from the instructor. Helping us ensure availability in the classes will minimize the number of trips/emails to the counselor's office.
NOTE: If the class(es) listed in the ed plan are full before the student can register, they will be instructed to meet with you and/or email you to update the ed plan.
ADE Form for A&R
The ADE Coordinator will submit an ADE form to the A&R office with all of the classes listed in the ed plan. Only the classes listed in the ed plan will be sent for approval via the ADE form. Once the classes are approved, the student will receive an email from A&R to let them know they can sign up for the classes.
If a student wants to change their schedule or add class, after the semester has started, they must contact you to update the ed plan to only show the classes they would like to take and then contact the ADE coordinator to submit an ADE form for the new class(es). A&R has to approve the class before the student can sign up.
Please remind aspiring ADE participants that they cannot sign up for any classes until they have been approved by A&R. Registering for classes before they are approved for the program will result in fees not being waived and ineligibility for the program. Dropping classes and then re-enrolling after the semester has started is strictly prohibited.
Priority 6 Registration
All ADE participants MUST wait until priority 6 registration to enroll in their classes, even if they qualify for an earlier priority. By participating in the ADE program, they forfeit any other priorities for registration. For example, an ADE student who qualifies for priority 1 because they are Continuing Active Military, Veterans, Foster Youth, Homeless Youth* Disabled Student Programs (DRD), Extended Opportunity Programs & Services (EOPS) & CalWORKs, Student Parents and Rising Scholars Program will have to wait until priority 6 to enroll because they are ADE students.
Program Guidelines
- Students must pass all of the classes they are signed up for when participating in ADE for that semester. A passing grade is that of a "C" or better for credit classes and a "P" for non-credit classes.
- If students drop a class(es) or never sign up for the classes that were approved, they will be not be eligible to participate in the program the following semester.
- If students need to drop a class due to unforeseen circumstances, they can contact the ADE coordinator to explain the situation and be approved to drop without being penalized.
Student Responsibilities
ADE students need to complete a series of tasks to maintain eligibility for the program, but as a counselor, they may ask you what else they need to do. You can always refer them back to the ADE Coordinator, or review the list below and ask them if they have completed the following.
ADE Student Checklist:
- Interest Form
- Phone Interview with ADE Coordinator
- Credit Application
- Ed Plan
- Sign the ADE Agreement/Contract (in Canvas)
- Watch the ADE Orientation video & complete short quiz (in Canvas)
- Students who attend in-person orientation will also need to complete a quiz to ensure understanding of program guidelines
- Sign up for classes - once the classes are approved, students are expected to enroll themselves in the classes in their ed plan
